Why you are not here to learn a lesson

Life lessons are how people learned to explain the bad things that happen to them. What is really going on is fixed events, loops, curses or default patterns.

Something goes wrong, then goes wrong again, and someone tells you it is a lesson. The universe is teaching you something, and once you learn it the pain will stop.

It is a comforting story, and it is wrong.

Where the idea comes from

Life lessons are a way people learned to explain the bad things that happen to them. Pain with no reason is hard to live with. Pain that comes with a syllabus feels bearable, even useful. So the idea spread, and now it is repeated everywhere from self-help books to social media.

The problem is the frame. A lesson implies a teacher, a curriculum and a pupil who needs correcting. It casts you as a child in a classroom.

You are not a child to be taught

You are a fragment of the divine, and nothing about that needs re-education. Once you drop the classroom picture, the hard things in your life sort into clearer groups.

Some events are fixed

Sometimes what looks like a lesson is a key event on your path. It is predetermined, your soul is set to experience it, and it cannot be avoided. Calling it a lesson adds nothing. It was going to happen, and knowing that it was fixed is more useful than hunting for its moral. More on this in can your fate be changed.

Most of the rest are loops

The same trouble returning again and again is usually a loop. Loops are caused by over-adherence to a certain way of thinking, and fear is one of the most common forms that takes. You keep acting from the same place, so you keep arriving at the same result. See why do the same problems keep repeating.

Some are curses

Curse is a loaded word. Still, some patterns in a life are put there by someone else. They do not belong to you, and no amount of "learning" will lift them. If that sounds familiar, read how to tell if someone has put a spell on you.

And some are just defaults

The rest are patterns you fit into by default. Nobody set them. They are the shape you settled into without choosing it.

Ask a better question

Stop asking what the lesson is. Ask which of these you are looking at: a fixed event, a loop, a curse or a default. Each one is handled differently, and none of them is solved by sitting in the pain waiting to graduate.

Working out which one you are in is what a consultation is for.

Questions

If life lessons are not real, why does the same pain keep coming back?

Usually because of a loop. Loops form when you hold too tightly to a way of thinking, or to fear, and they can be broken once you are ready to break the pattern.

Are some hard events unavoidable?

Yes. Some are key events on your path and cannot be avoided. That still does not make them lessons.
